AI – Southern Oregon again helped host former Iranian Political Prisoner and torture victim, Reza Mohajerinejad. On November 19, 2012, Mr. Mohajerinejad spoke on “The Case For Not Bombing Iran, The Case For Peace.” During his program Reza talked about the murder of Sattar Beheshti two weeks earlier. The talk moved people to engage in this remembrance of Sattar Beheshti.
Amnesty Southern Oregon co-sponsored the program with the SOU-UN Club and Peace House. The Mail Tribune newspaper and Jefferson Pulbic Radio spread the word about Mr. Mohajerinejad’s efforts. SOU professor Dr. James Phillips and AI-Southern Oregon Chapter President Dennis Remick also supported the event for Mr. Mohajerinejad. Over 60 people attended the SOU venue, while others heard the news through JPR and The Mail Tribune. AI-Southern Oregon helped gather over 200 signatures to a petition in support of Mr. Mohajerinejad’s message.
