Event: No Women, No Cry – A Maternal Healthcare Event
Date: May 10, 2012, Thursday, 6 – 9:00 p.m.

Admission: free
A Maternal Health Crisis – Approximately, 1000 women die each day from complications during pregnancy
or childbirth. Nearly all maternal deaths and disabilities could be prevented.

6-7:00 pm Music – local artist Melanie Joy Hall – folk, jazz, country
7-8:00 pm Movie – No Woman No Cry by Christy Turlington Burns (super model turned activist) Documentary revealing that for hundreds of thousands of women a year, world-wide, pregnancy is a death sentence that could be prevented.
8-9:00 pm Panel Discussion –
Sharen Blake – Nurse Midwife, experience running maternity projects in Tanzania, Bangladesh and the USA
Jeanne Faulkner – Oregon’s CARE advocate, ex-labor & delivery nurse, writer & editor
Dr. Kathleen Wilder – OB/GYN at OHSU, specializes in general obstetrics and gynecology with a focus on contraception and adolescent reproductive health care and education
Action: Amnesty International card and letter writing, petitions
Drawings: Free drawings for local merchant gifts and items made by women artisans through fair trade practices.
